Why Calgary walls crack and how we fix them

Calgary's freeze-thaw cycles and dry winters put constant stress on drywall. Seasonal humidity swings cause the framing behind the wall to expand and contract, which pops screws, opens seams and forms hairline cracks at corners and around window frames. Most of these repairs look minor but spread quickly if ignored — a small crack in October becomes a jagged gap by March.

A proper drywall repair isn't just filling the hole — it's feathering the compound over a wide enough area, letting each coat dry fully, sanding smooth without damaging the paper face, and priming so the patch doesn't flash through paint. Rushed repairs show up the moment the light hits the wall at an angle.

What we repair

  • Nail holes, anchor holes and screw pops
  • Doorknob and corner dents
  • Larger cut-out patches (electrical moves, plumbing access, etc.)
  • Hairline cracks at window and door frames
  • Failed drywall tape and open seams
  • Corner bead damage and delamination
  • Ceiling patches and sagging sections
  • Water-damaged drywall (after the leak source is fixed)
  • Texture matching — knockdown, orange peel and smooth
  • Wall prep and skim coating for painting

How a drywall repair visit works

1

Assess and prep

We check the damage, confirm the scope, cut back any loose or damaged material and apply backing if needed for a solid repair.

2

Patch and coat

Joint compound is applied in stages — each coat feathered wider than the last to blend with the surrounding wall. Texture is matched where practical.

3

Sand and prime-ready

Dried compound is sanded smooth, dust is cleaned up and the surface is ready for primer. Paint can be quoted separately for the same visit.

Common reasons people book drywall repair

  • Selling a home — fixing wall damage before listing
  • Moving out of a rental — patching anchor holes and dents
  • Post-renovation cleanup after electrical or plumbing work
  • Freshening up a room before repainting
  • Repairing seasonal cracks that opened over winter
  • Fixing water damage from a resolved roof or pipe leak
  • Repairing damage after a TV or shelf was removed from the wall

What affects the cost of drywall repair

Size and count

A single small hole takes 30 minutes. Six holes across three rooms takes half a day. Grouping repairs in one visit is always more cost-effective.

Texture matching

Smooth walls are the easiest to blend. Heavy knockdown or custom textures take more time and may not match perfectly on older surfaces.

Drying time

Compound needs to dry between coats. For larger patches, a second visit may be needed to sand and finish after the first coat cures — this is quoted upfront.

Send photos for an accurate quote. Common small repairs can be flat-rated; larger projects are quoted by scope after seeing the damage.

Drywall repair FAQ

Can you paint the repair in the same visit?

Painting can be added to the quote. For larger patches, the compound needs to dry and cure fully before paint — we'll let you know if a second visit makes more sense.

Can you match my wall texture?

We can match many common textures closely — orange peel, knockdown and light skip trowel. Older or heavily layered finishes may not be a perfect match, but blending minimizes the difference.

Do you repair water-damaged drywall?

Yes, but only after the moisture source is fixed. We'll assess whether the area is dry enough to repair safely. Active moisture or mold needs a remediation professional first.

How long does a typical repair take?

Small holes (1–3 patches) take 1–2 hours including setup and cleanup. Larger or water-damaged sections may require two visits to allow drying between coats.

Is there a minimum job size?

A minimum trip charge applies for very small one-hole repairs. It often makes sense to batch a few small repairs together to get more value from the visit.

Do I need to move furniture before the visit?

Clear the area within a metre or two of the repair. We cover floors and nearby surfaces during work. A bit of light dust is normal — we clean up before leaving.

Ready to fix those walls?

Not satisfied with the work? I will come back and make it right.
