Why Calgary doors stick, sag and misalign
Calgary's extreme temperature swings — from -30°C in January to +30°C in July — cause door frames and the wood around them to expand and contract constantly. A door that latched perfectly in spring may drag on the floor by August or refuse to close in February. This isn't a defective door; it's a normal response to Alberta's climate and it's completely fixable.
In newer homes, framing settles for the first few years and doors shift with it. In older homes, hinges loosen, strike plates drift and door stops compress. The fix is almost never a new door — it's a proper assessment and adjustment by someone who knows what to look for.
