Buy the lock and confirm the bore size
Standard Calgary doors take a 2-1/8 inch bore. Measure yours or check the existing deadbolt box — almost all modern smart locks fit this size. If you are unsure, send a photo and we will confirm before you order.
Download the lock app before we arrive
Schlage Home, Yale Access, Kwikset App or August — download it on the phone you plan to use as the primary device. Having the app open saves 10 minutes during the pairing step.
Have your Wi-Fi password ready
Wi-Fi enabled locks need your network credentials during setup. Bluetooth-only locks do not need Wi-Fi at all — but if you are installing a connected model, have the password written down and nearby.
Tip: Wi-Fi locks drain batteries faster than Bluetooth-only models — sometimes significantly so. We advise on expected battery life based on your specific lock model during the install, so you know when to expect the first low-battery alert.

Do I need an electrician to install a smart lock?
No. Battery-powered smart locks replace your existing deadbolt with no new wiring at all. The only power source is the included batteries — usually 4 AA batteries. We handle the full installation without any electrical work.
What brands do you install?
We install Schlage, Yale, August, Kwikset, Weiser and all other major brands that use a standard deadbolt prep. We are brand-agnostic — bring whatever lock you have chosen and we will make it work.
Can you install on any door?
Most standard doors in Calgary have a 2-1/8 inch bore hole and accept any standard deadbolt-format smart lock. We confirm compatibility before arriving. Doors without an existing deadbolt prep require drilling — contact us to discuss scope and pricing.
How many access codes can I set?
Most keypad deadbolts support between 30 and 250 user codes depending on the model. Wi-Fi and app-enabled locks often allow unlimited codes managed through the app. We program your initial codes during the install.
What happens if the battery dies?
All smart locks have a low-battery alert that notifies you through the app well before failure. Most also have an emergency external power option — a 9V battery terminal on the exterior — that lets you power the lock long enough to enter and swap the batteries.
Can you install two locks in one visit?
Yes — front and back door installs in one visit are one of our most common bookings. Two locks in one visit is $130, which saves money compared to two separate appointments.
Do I need Wi-Fi for a smart lock?
No. Bluetooth-only locks work without internet and are reliable for most residential use. Wi-Fi locks add remote access and real-time notifications. We advise on the right type for your use case during the install.
How long does installation take?
A single smart lock install including app pairing and code programming takes approximately 45 minutes. Two locks in the same visit take about 75 minutes. We stay until everything is confirmed working.
What if the lock is not compatible with my door?
We confirm compatibility before booking by reviewing a photo of your existing deadbolt and door edge. If there is a compatibility issue, we advise on alternatives before we arrive so the visit is not wasted.
Can you remove a smart lock and put the original back?
Yes. Reverting to a standard deadbolt is a 20-minute job. Common when moving out of a rental or listing a home for sale. We can do this as a standalone visit or as part of the original install appointment if needed.
