A smooth skim coat on a knockdown ceiling, or vice versa, is immediately visible in raking light. We identify the existing texture type before starting — orange peel, knockdown, smooth or popcorn — and match it before applying compound.
Painting over a water stain without shellac-based primer causes the stain to bleed through within weeks. The blocker is applied first, cured, then compound and texture go over top. Skipping it means doing the job twice.
Sanding wet compound tears the surface and creates low spots that show under paint. We schedule the job to allow proper cure time between coats rather than force a same-day finish that will not hold.
Text or upload two or three photos of the damage — straight up and from an angle. We reply with a flat quote the same day.
Accept the quote and pick a day. Most ceiling patch jobs are booked within one to two business days.
We complete the repair, clean up and walk you through the finish before leaving. Paint-ready on the day or we confirm the timeline for multi-coat jobs.
Included in every job
Not in standard scope
We advise on anything outside scope and refer to the right trade when needed.
Light fixture or fan removed
Ceiling fan or pot light swapped out and the old opening is too large. We patch, texture match and leave it paint-ready.
After a resolved water leak
Leak is fixed but the ceiling panel is stained or buckled. We apply stain-blocking primer before any compound goes on.
Pre-sale ceiling repair
Buyers notice ceiling damage immediately. A clean patch raises perceived value and removes an easy inspection flag.
Before repainting the ceiling
Cracks and holes filled and feathered so the new paint coat lands on a flat, uniform surface rather than telegraphing old damage.
Speaker or smoke detector opening
Old rough-in left behind when upgrading A/V or alarm systems. We patch the opening flush and match the surrounding texture.
After plumbing or electrical access
Contractors cut into the ceiling and left it for the homeowner. We close the opening cleanly with mesh, compound and matching texture.
A little preparation makes ceiling patch jobs faster and helps us get the best finish on the first visit.
Confirm the water source is fixed
For water damage repairs, confirm with your plumber or roofer that the leak is resolved before booking. Patching over active moisture will fail within weeks and need to be redone.
Clear directly below the repair area
Ceiling work creates fine dust. Move furniture, cover anything you want protected, and ensure we can set up a stable ladder directly under the repair zone.
Note if you want paint-ready only or paint included
If you want paint applied the same visit, supply the ceiling paint — we do not source it. If you are painting yourself afterward, we leave it primed and ready.
★★★★★Google Review“Patched a ceiling hole from a removed light fixture and matched the popcorn texture perfectly. You cannot see where the hole was. Fast, clean and exactly what he quoted.”
Painting over a water stain without a shellac-based primer sealer causes the stain to bleed through the topcoat within weeks. We always ask whether the leak source is confirmed fixed before patching, because a patch over active moisture will fail and need to be redone.
Calgary homes often get ice dam ceiling damage in late winter. Ice dam leaks stop when temperatures rise in March, but the water has already soaked the ceiling panel — confirm the source is fixed before booking. We can advise on what to look for when you send photos.
Get a quote →Joint compound needs at least 24 hours between coats. A typical patch takes two to three coats, so plan for 48–72 hours total cure time before sanding and painting. We schedule accordingly so the compound is never rushed.
Yes. We carry spray-on acoustic texture and hand-apply the aggregate to match existing popcorn density. The match is very close, though aged popcorn ceilings may have a slight colour variation that only shows before the ceiling is repainted.
Almost always yes — the patched area will be a lighter shade until the entire ceiling is painted. We leave the repair primed and paint-ready. If you supply paint, we can apply it in the same visit so there is no visible seam.
The moisture source must be confirmed fixed before we patch. We apply shellac-based stain-blocking primer over any water-stained areas before compound goes on — skipping this causes the stain to bleed through within weeks.
We handle holes of any size. Small holes under 4 inches get a mesh patch and compound. Larger openings get wood or metal backing attached to the joists before drywall and compound are applied. There is no upper limit — we quote based on scope.
A well-executed patch with matching texture and paint should be invisible. The two variables are texture match quality and paint colour. We send a photo quote first so you can confirm the approach before we start.
The ceiling should be completely dry with no soft spots and no staining that is actively spreading. Confirm with your plumber or roofer. Calgary ice dam leaks typically stop in March when temperatures rise, but the ceiling may still need time to dry fully.
Yes. Combining repairs in one visit is more efficient and often costs less per patch. We apply compound to all areas, then sand and texture once everything has cured. Send photos of each area when you request a quote.
Orange peel is a fine, bumpy texture that looks like the skin of an orange — common in homes built after 2000. Knockdown is a flatter, irregular skim pattern applied by hand trowel and knocked down flat — common in 1980s and 1990s Calgary homes. We match both.
Yes. Fresh compound is highly porous and causes paint to look dull and uneven without primer. We apply drywall primer over all patched areas. For water-stained spots we use shellac-based stain blocker first, then primer, then the topcoat.
